ACCLIMATIZATION
Acclimatization is one of the important things to prepare for while planning trip to Ladakh. Therefore, before you set your foot out of your house to go to Ladakh, you should be aware what altitude sickness is and how to save yourself from it.
LADAKH CLIMATE
Ladakh experiences extreme climatic variations much for its high altitude. The region is also sparsely populated. Greater Himalaya range of location exposes the place to extreme winters. Often people from the small towns of Ladakh move to mainland where the climate is still warmer.
Things to take or note:
- Take proper govt. permits. Two permits are needed, enquire about them
- One photo ID card like PAN Card or Driver’s license
- Medicines: Day 4 onwards, you’ll have to take doctor prescribed medicine for higher altitudes. They adjust your heartbeat for higher altitude. Doctors can prescribe some harmless medicine. I forgot the name of the medicine we took. It is a must.
- UV protection Sun Glasses
- Sun block cream – should have a good SPF rating like 45+
- Lip balm and Moisturizer / Cold cream
- Winter wears
- Comfortable trekking shoes or sport shoes

Mountain Biking in Leh Ladakh
Mountain Biking in Ladakh offers an exhilarating opportunity of cycling through the highest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas and Karakoram. The spectacular beauty of snowcapped mountains, fascinating Buddhist Gompas and charming local villages, are added pleasures as you traverse on your bike. To bike the Zig-Zag roads in Ladakh, one needs to be technically perfect. The roads are rough, though paved. The slick road wet from melting snow are tricky enough to make one’s wheel skid. A support car to carry ones luggage comes handy. Proper biking equipment is needed to survive and enjoy the thrilling adventure.
Ladakh is called the ‘Cradle of Adventure’. Mountain biking is one such exciting adventure. In the dizzying altitudes of the barren cold desert, riding on your bicycle on the rising and falling roads is pure dose of adrenalin.

Ladakh Attraction – best tours
Once you reach in Leh, there are nearby places that you can visit one-place per day. There is Pangog Lake, Nubra Valley, and Khardungla Pass, and Lamayuru. You can visit them in any order. You can park your cab and get bikes on rent to visit these places. For all these places, you need to start early, like 8 AM or so; because you need to be back by evening. As melted ice starts flowing on the road.
Visit Pangong Lake
This the most amazing lake. Few bollywood movies have been shot there, like 3 Idiot’s climax scene.
Visit Khardung La Pass: The Height Motorable Road in the World
There is a cafeteria on the top. You’ll enjoy the Maggi there. There is also a souvenir shop which sells T-shirts and mementos branded with “Khardung La Pass” tag, so get one.
Visit Lamayuru
There are many monasteries in Leh. Lamayuru is the biggest. If you are religious and believe in spirituality. You’ll like talking to the monks there and their life style.
Visit Nubra Valley
Nubra is a tri-armed valley located to the north east of Ladakh valley. Diskit, the headquarter of eponymous Subdivision and also of Nubra tehsil, is about 150 km north from Leh town
